I'm already on VHI with the family, but i think it was an extra 30 euro (or something around there) for the multi-trip cover for a year. Not a clue how much the VHI is though.

Hey guys,

I see a lot of you are going with the VHI policy upgrade to cover you for the trip. One word of warning - both the BMC and FYI offer Search and Rescue cover. For BMC it covers up to £100,000 and FYI covers up to £3,000. FYI costs under €40 and the BMC cover costs €85 including student membership of the BMC.
Check that VHI covers Search and Rescue. Your E111 will cover your basic hospital expenses but if one of us lands flat off a drop or something in the bottom of a gorge. You will have to pay to be either airlifted out or taken out by SAR teams. Make sure your insurance covers you for this.

I don't have VHI and BMC is too much so I'm goin to go for FYI again.
If you can't fix them with duck tape... Shoot Them!

Anyone been looking into insurance yet?

UKRGB recommends these

- BMC (prob the best, but pricey, especially for a single trip as you have to pay for BMC membership too)
- Snowcard
- Adrenaline
- Dogtag

havene heard anything about the middle 2, I went with dogtag last year, remember them being cheap enough for what they covered

Does your policy cover paddling on grade 4 water JK?

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't, it doesn't cover heli rescues as well, and I think Annie had some issues with hers when she read the fine print on her policy.

It covered Grade five, last summer.
When I rang them up, they said it covered all paddling, within twelve miles of land.

VHI doesnt cover it...verbal contract etc etc. When Annie checked it out last year anyway.

Get the policy from their site, then search for canoe, kayak, whitewater and "black water".
It says it covers whitewater in one place and says it doesn't in another.

You're not covered by it Gavin.
You're not a full time UK resident.
It's the box, up top. The first detail they mention.

dogtag told me ya have to be "Residence of the UK or Channel Islands.

We can only cover you if you have your main home in the UK or the Channel Islands and have not spent more than six months abroad during the year before the policy was issued."

Have people got this sorted?

I went with the BMC, its expensive when you add in the annual membership, but if your going skiiing/snowboarding in winter its not so bad.
Seriously whats the worst that could happen?...........Well, you could crash the f*ckin van!
