Canal polo goals

Postby Solid » Mon Feb 20, 2017 11:10 am

I was on the canal a few weeks ago and noticed the nets on the goals were hanging pretty close to the water. Definitely close enough to get in the way of the rowers.

I havent played on the canal pitch in a while and was wondering how suitable is it these days?
Are the goals at an appropriate height? Is there a strong flow there with the 2 missing down stream lough gates?

I was hopeing if it is suitable we could run a small paddys day competition there between a few nuig and gkc teams before heading to town.

We're looking at getting them raised, we just haven't got round to it yet.

If we take them down at any stage, I think it would make sense to hang the goals just upstream of Wards. There are lamp posts on the river right side, so you could use them to tie the ropes off. And then it'll never get in the way of the rowers. Maybe there is some other issue that I haven't considered though
