Location: Lahinch
Date: 18-11-2012
Level: Ehh... six foot swell, moderately strong cross shore wind
River Leader Dave Higgins
Start and Finish time of trip: Shed for 10.00, Lahinch for 12.40, get on for around 13.15 Off the water at 16.10
People on the water: David Higgins, Gerard Keelan, Aisling Ffrench, James Raymond, Liam Dixon, Michael Korte, Ronan Cooney, Con Fiuza, Ben Walker
Description: Surf Trip, including introduction to surf for a few people.
Recommendations for future trips:
Despite appearances, long boats can make for a much better choice than short boats I reckon, as Ronan proceeded to catch and surf quite a bit more than the rest of us.

Bringing the hot drink down the water woulda been better than leaving it in the car for after.

Bring food for after, unless you plan on buying food there (and I think for the most part it's a very touristy time of year place - the cafe at the beach was set to close for the next few weeks - they gave us free stuff :-D)

Gloves or pogies and maybe wooly socks inside booties might be an idea from now on, most people kept warm for the day but had cold hands and feet.

Anyone else on the trip have any reccomendations? Be handy to know for Lahinch next semester.

I found it grand. I think Ffrench might disagree although she didn't have a neck seal..

I thought it had been decided that there's no need to do them for lower sessions?

Location: Inny, Ballymahon
Level: Medium-High
River Leader: Mise
Start and Finish time of trip: Shed for 09.30, back to shed for 17.00
People on the water: John, Mark Morley, Cathal Kelly, Ian, James, Luke, Conor, Diarmuid
Description: Beginner river trip. Apart from a blast down the river on a cold day, we covered group dynamics, signals, breaking in and out, ferrygliding, a very small bit of hydrology, rescues as they happened, and whatever of babbling I had in me on the day.
Recommendations for future trips: An earlier start from that time of year would be good. The lie in was welcome though..

Also, it was great to have so much help from the more experienced lads, I love to see that happening. There's always room for that to happen more though, not only on river trips, but on all sessions. That means lead instructors accommodating up and coming helpers more, but also these lads stepping up more. It needs to happen for the club to keep working.
